Students are to prepare, alone or in pairs (in exceptional cases a group of three will be permitted), shortish presentations (25 - 45 minutes), accompanied by appropriate A-V material, on some topic relating to some aspect or aspects of American history or American current events. Attendance is compulsory, which is to say only two absences are permitted. Topic List: The European Invasion / Conquest of the Native Peoples / Extinction of the Native Peoples.

Bacon’s Rebellion.
The French – Indian War—Prelude to Independence.

Preparation and presentation of an adequate in-class A-V-accompanied project, on a topic of the student’s choice, though cleared first with the instructor, as well as participation in presentations given by others.
Successful completion of a take-home exam relating to material presented during lectures, and a short oral exam relating to presentations and to some topic relating to American history or current American events (which oral topics will be given out before hand).
A grade of 5 will be granted to students who have a very good knowledge of American history and current American events, are able to to engage in and understand perfectly, or almost perfectly, discussions pertaining to American history and current events, and who fully understand the importance of participation in aspects of the American historical heritage.
A grade of 4 will be granted to students who have a good knowledge of American history and current events, are able to engage in and understand discussions pertaining to American history and current events, and who understand well the importance of participation in aspects of the American historical heritage.
A grade of 3 will be granted to students who have an adequate knowledge of American history and current events, are able adequately to engage in and understand discussions pertaining to American history and current events, and who understand more or less the importance of participation in aspects of the American historical heritage. A grade of 2 will be given to students who have an inadequate knowledge of American history and current events, are unable adequately to engage in and understand discussions pertaining to American history and current events, and who do not have an adequate understanding of the importance of participation in aspects of the American historical heritage.

Student presentations will count for 40% of the final grade, the take-home exam will count for 40% of the final grade, and the oral exam will count for 20% of the final grade. Students' language level should now be at, or approaching, B2. |
